The day started well with Abdul giving me feedback about the check_mk plugin for PostgreSQL. The high CPU consumption of the query that checks the Database Bloat was not related to the issue they had been experiencing:
'This query is the check_mk statement that monitors the Database Bloat (space usage and fragmentation on the tables/indexes). It has a lot of conditionals, calculations, and aggregation functions, which leads to the high CPU usage, as you can see in the complete statement below.
Our question is, is it having a negative impact on the database performance? If so, I can discuss with the team on how we can try to avoid this, since it’s a plugin native query developed by the Check_MK company, and probably we can’t change it…'
I finished watching Teorema, by Pasolini. Definitely, I can't see Pasolini's films anymore as I might have seen them about 20 years ago. They seem crude to me nowadays, and not only because they were mostly produced in the 1960s. Another highlight is the following quote:
'It is necessary to try to invent new techniques, impossible to recognize. That do not resemble any previous technique to avoid the childishness of ridicule. To build one's own world. Without possible confrontation. For which there are no judgment precedents, which must be as new as the technique. No one should know that the author is worthless. That he is an abnormal being. Inferior, who like a worm, writhes to survive. No one should catch him at a moment of naivety. Everything must appear perfect. Based on unknown and therefore indubitable rules, like a madman. Yes, like a madman. Glass over glass, because I am not able to correct anything and no one should notice. A sign painted on glass. To correct without dirtying a sign painted before on another glass. But everyone must believe that it is not the act of an incapable, of an impotent. Absolutely. But it is a safe, solid, lofty and almost arrogant decision. No one should know that a sign works by chance. 'By chance' is horrible... And if just one sign works by miracle, it must immediately be protected, preserved, like a canvas. But no one should notice. The author is a poor idiot. A mediocre one. He lives in chance and risk. Dishonored like a child. Reduced his life to the melancholy and ridicule of a being who survives degraded, under the impression of having lost something forever.'
I couldn't get the PostgreSQL services to be discovered on the Postgre hosts in Genova 3. Although last night I had an insight and remembered that Python probably isn't present on the hosts. I will try to install it today.
I went to get a haircut and took the opportunity to drink a Heineken there. The heat was too much...
On the way back, I stopped at IOB to buy beers. I bought a pack of 8 Ribeirão Larger. The cashier charged me 12, which I only noticed at home. I had to go back there to get 4 more... Refunding the purchase was much more complicated. Now, because of her, I'll have to make this huge sacrifice of drinking 4 more cans 😂
Back home, dad asked me to buy some items for them at Ultrafarma, as it was discount day. And indeed, apparently, there were excellent discounts. I even got a gift.
And I only had one surprise at the end, in the total amount, when he adds the ICMS
Which in Pernambuco is even more expensive, 11% and something...
