Particularmente eu aprecio uma boa leitura. Seja um artigo de jornal, de uma revista, uma coluna, um livro, etc. O advento da popularização e facilidade dos Tablets (iPad, Galaxy, Coby \o/, etc.) tornou o transporte e acesso a essas leituras mais fácil. Estamos vivendo uma época em que o espaço físico vem se tornando artigo de luxo, principalmente nos grandes centros urbanos. Para aqueles que gostam de ler, manter uma biblioteca em casa é uma tarefa infernal.
Quando você consegue colocar uma estante de livros em algum canto da casa, atrapalhando a passagem ou impedindo alguma porta de abrir, a limpeza da mesma é deveras trabalhosa. Livros juntam poeira. E muita. Para fazer uma faxina decente você precisa tirar todos os livros, limpa-los, limpar a estante e depois colocar tudo no lugar. E se você não tem espaço para a estante, tem que jogar os livros dentro de uma caixa, juntando a mesma poeira e complicando sua vida na hora de procurar aquele livro onde você leu aquela citação legal.
Então em uma coisa menor do que uma folha de papel A4 você conseguir armazenar centenas de livros! Não junta poeira, é fácil de procurar um livro específico ou mesmo uma citação dentro de sei lá qual o livro. A leitura em um tablet não é incômoda. Pelo contrário, acho até melhor do que a forma impressa, pois não depende de iluminação e, dependendo da quantidade de páginas do livro, é mais cômodo.
Desde que Gutenberg inventou a prensa móvel, por volta de 1439, o livro impresso é a forma mais difundida de leitura no mundo. Em 1971 Michael Hart digitou a Declaração de Independência dos Estados Unidos criando assim o primeiro eBook e dando origem ao Projeto Gutenberg. Claro que os eBooks só ficaram realmente conhecidos e divulgados no Século XXI, mas ainda faltam alguns passos para uma total quebra de paradigma, como a passagem do Vinil para o CD e depois para o MP3.
Prevejo uma tendência das editoras em começarem a vender seus títulos (não apenas alguns, mas todos) tanto na forma impressa como na forma digital. A forma digital agregaria algumas vantagens enormes sobre a forma impressa, podendo assim reduzir o preço final do produto, nos seguintes aspectos:
- Não há necessidade de imprimir o livro, portanto sem custo de tinta e papel;
- Redução de custo em armazenamento e logística, não havendo necessidade de espaço físico para guardar milhares de livros e retirando o custo do transporte logístico desses;
- Ecológico, não dependendo da celulose para sua produção ou mesmo reciclagem;

Não quero sugerir a abolição da forma impressa de livros. Essa sempre irá existir, assim como ainda existem os apreciadores do vinil. Além do que, apesar dos tablets estarem mais popularizados, para maior parte da população ainda é um item de luxo. O que sugiro aqui é apenas uma tendência e uma ideia para baratear o custo que temos em um livro, afinal até os CDs atualmente estão sendo substituídos por PenDrivers e cartões SD!

It might be some newspaper or magazine article, a book, a comment, etc. With the popularization and practice using of the Tablets (iPad, Galaxy, Coby \o/, etc) made the transport and access to those readings much easier. We're living in a time where the physical space has becoming something priceless, especially in the big cities. For those whose appreciate to read, to keep a bookshelf at home is something evil.
When you have to put a bookshelf in some corner of your home, blocking some passage and some door to open, to do the cleaning of this is really hard. Books join a lot of dust. A lot! For you can do a nice cleaning you'll need to take off all the books, clean them, clean the bookshelf and then put all books back to their place. And if you don't have space for a bookshelf, you’ll must place all your books inside some box (or many boxes), jointing dust again and turning complicated the task of search that book where you saw that nice quotation.
So, what about something smaller than an A4 sheet where you can save hundreds of books! It doesn't join dust, is easy to search some specific book or even a quotation inside some of those books. The reading through a Tablet is not uncomfortable. I even say that is better than some printed books, because doesn't need light and, depending on the amount of pages in the book, is easy to carry.
Since Gutenberg invented the movable type printing, around 1439, the printed press has been the most used form of reading in the World. In 1971 Michael Hart digitalized the United States Declaration of Independence, thus creating the first eBook and starting the Gutenberg Project. Of course that the eBooks just were well knew in the XXI century, but there are still a couple of steps to a complete change of a paradigm, as it happened with the vinyl albums to the CD, and later to MP3.
I predict a trend for publishers begin to sell their books (not only few of them, but all) as well in a printed format as on digital format. And the digital would still give the publishers some advantages, reducing so the cost and pricing for the costumer:
- There's no need to print the book, thus no cost over paper and ink;
- Reduce of cost on storage and distribution, because there's no need of a physical space to store thousands of books neither the distribution of them;
- Is ecologic because it doesn't need cellulose to its production or even recycle;

I won't to suggest the complete abolition of the printed books. It will always exist, as so still there are vinyl appreciators. Besides that, even with the tablets becoming so popular, most of the people still consider this an afford item. What I want to suggest here is just a trend and an idea to reduce the book prices, at least even the CDs has now been replaced by the Pen Drivers and SD Cards!
