Celibato

Talvez a Igreja Católica precise rever alguns conceitos.

Celibacy, from Latin cælibatus which means "not married". The Christian tradition teaches that the celibacy is a state of honor. Apostle Paul wrote: ""Now concerning the things about which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.". On verses 1–2 is written: "I wish that all men were like me. However each man has his own gift from God, one of this kind, and another of that kind. But I say to the unmarried and to widows, it is good for them if they remain even as I am. But if they don’t have self-control, let them marry. For it’s better to marry than to burn with passion.".
Celibacy is just one more contradiction between the Old and New Testament. If it's good for man to not touch a woman, why God created her on Genesis? He should have created the man and another man once that was just to company him. A brow to play backgammon, talk about soccer (or baseball) and drink beer. They would die from oldness and than the human race would over. Very logical Paul. Some historians say that the practice of celibacy was implemented only after the first millennium, on the Middle Age, to avoid the church to lose its possessions to heirs.
I knew an ex-seminarian that abandoned his clergy life because couldn't handle with the sexual harassment and homosexuality among priests and seminarians. "I was constantly harassment by the priests, being persecuted for not lay down with them." - told me him, once. Why do the celibacy if what they hide from the society eyes is even worst? I also knew a couple - he an ex-priest and she an ex-nun - that followed in love and had to abandon the clergy life to marry. And not because of this they let to practice and preach the Jesus teaching.
Sure, I'm being a little radical, because there are cases where the celibacy really let some illuminated people to dedicate their selves, full time, to the Jesus life. But this is natural of them. It isn't a forced thing. To force the celibacy had only been generating cases that we see sometimes at the news. Pedophiles, homosexuals and priests that keep affairs with the women from his parish. Maybe a lot of this could be avoided. Maybe the Catholic Church should review its concepts

  1. Priests could actually marry until the fourth century or something. They supposedly really got into this celibacy business because it kept money in the church. Did you know that the Vatican was directly involved in the child molestation scandal cover up in Boston. Is it any wonder that I keep identifying as a Methodist(much more liberal)?
